Gandhi Mahavidyalaya, Rourkela has adopted CBCS curriculum and implemented semester examination system accordingly since 2017. Students are required to appear in the Mid-semester examination (20 marks for non-practical subject and 15 marks for Practical subjects) and the rest during the term end semester examination (80 marks for non-practical subjects and 60 marks theory & 25 marks practical for practical subjects). Apart from the regular examinations the students are also evaluated on classroom assignments, viva, seminar presentations etc.

From the current academic session (2024-25), college has adopted the New Education Policy and the syllabus was implemented as per the guideline prescribed by the Sambalpur University and Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha. The evaluation pattern is as follows.

In order to clear a Semester examination, a candidate is required to secure a minimum of 33% marks or D grade in each of the theory papers and at least 45% or C grade in the practicals. A student, in order to retain Honours, or Major, has to secure a minimum of Grade-C and above in each of the Major Credit Course. Further, in order to obtain Distinction, a student has to secure a minimum of Grade-C in all the papers separately.

  2. A student's level of competence shall be categorized by a grade point average to be specified as SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average)
    a) The SGPA is the ratio of sum of the product of the number of credits with the grade points scored by a student in all the courses taken by a student and the sum of the number of credits of all the courses undergone by a student, i.e. SGPA(Si)=(CixGi)/ ∑Ci
    b) CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) The GCPA is also calculated in the same manner taking into account all the courses undergone by a student over all the semesters of a programme i.e. CGPA - ∑ (Ci x Si)/∑Ci

N.B.: Si is the SGPA of any semester and Ci is the total number of credits in that semester. CREDIT = Integer specifying the relative emphasis of individual course item(s) in a Semester as indicated by the course structure and syllabus

Other Important Rules:

  1. Students need to appear Mid- Semester and End -Semester examination.
  2. The duration of examination for all Mid-Sem and End-Sem is 1 hour and 3 hrs respectively. In Mid- Sem, the type of question is decided by concerned faculty member. All the papers of Mid-Sem examination is conducted and valued by the teachers who are teaching the corresponding paper or by any external faculty in the college. If a student fails to appear in Mid- Semester examination, he/she will be allowed one more chance for the same. For a student there is no provision for Improvement in Mid-Semester examination.
  3. The answer scripts of Mid-Sem are kept for 06 months from the date of publication of result of concerned Semester for reference.
  4. If a student remains absent in Mid Semester examination his/her case may be considered by the institutional authorities under special case for participation in Inter-University or Inter-State competitions in Games and Sports or any critical medical case.
  5. Disciplinary action is taken against a student who is found adopting malpractice or showing any indiscipline behaviour or violating Code of conduct etc. For the above case a student is generally awarded “M” grade having 0 (zero) Grade point in the paper/papers concerned. For repeated offence, he/she will be awarded “M” grade having 0(zero) Grade point in all papers of that examination and will be expelled from the college for one year.
  6. A student may apply through head of the institution for Re-addition/ Re-checking of a paper within 15 days from the date of publication of result in each Semester by depositing prescribed fees. There is no Re-evaluation processes of the answer scripts. Students may also apply for Re-addition of marks and photo copy of answer scripts in the prescribed application form available in college concern.
